Sam Cox is the Head of Spartans Boxing Academy, blending a fighter’s mindset with a coach’s dedication to help his students reach their full potential. As a former professional bantamweight boxer with an undefeated 6-0 record, Sam knows firsthand the discipline, focus, and heart that boxing demands.
Beyond the ring, Sam has earned recognition as the world’s youngest boxing referee, a testament to his deep understanding of the sport and his commitment to maintaining its integrity and fairness. His unique journey — from fighter to referee to head coach — shapes his holistic approach to boxing, combining technical skill, strategic thinking, and unwavering respect for the sweet science.

Frequently asked questions
After completing the course can I start coaching classes at any Spartans Boxing Club branch?
After the course you will need to complete 5 assisted class coaching sessions at any Spartans Boxing Club branch under the direct supervision of a Spartans coach on duty. Only after that will the coaching accreditation certificate be issued to you.
Once I get the certificate, can I work as a boxing coach around the world?
Yes. Our Spartanized coaching program is now certified through ISSA, one of the most recognised names in fitness and sports science education worldwide. That means your certificate isn’t just an in-house credential, it’s globally recognised, opening doors to coach in gyms and boxing programs internationally.
I’m not a boxer but I have other forms of martial arts experience, am i suitable for the course?
Of course! This course is beneficial to fitness coaches, boxers, coaches, hobbyists and absolute beginners. The course will give you takeaways to learn regardless of your experience level.
What will I learn from this pathway
You’ll go through our Coach Accreditation Course (CAC) onsite, the foundation of how we coach at Spartans, and only receive certification when you pass the understudy portion, plus two ISSA-certified specialisations: Group Exercise and Personal Training. Both are studied online, with exams to certify you’re ready. Finish the pathway and you walk away qualified to coach group classes and 1-on-1 sessions, backed by a globally recognised accreditation.
How long is the course duration?
It’s a two day course with a mix of theory and practical lessons. (Be prepared to sweat.)
For ISSA Personal Training and Group Exercise, they are both online and backed by an exam
Who else will be participating in the course
The course participants will be a mix of Spartans coaches and members of the public. The course is a good opportunity to network with your peers, a lot of the participants have made friends with each other.
Will I get a job as a coach at Spartans once I receive my certificate?
The certificate allows you to coach at any Spartans branch, but like any job application there will be an interview process from the branch to decide if you are the right fit for our business.
I have an injury, will I be able to attend the course?
Please check with a certified doctor if you are able to attend the course as you will be required to do physical exercise.
How do I pay for the course and when do I need to make payment?
Course fees are to be paid latest a week before the course date. An invoice will be emailed to you with the payment details. Once payment is received the course manual will be sent to you.
How long is the certificate valid for?
The certificate is valid for 2 years however there is a small annual renewal fee of SG$25. With this renewal fee you will have access to our online boxing content as well as being eligible for discounts on future course.
